Living our values

14th October 2022

This week saw the first of three events taking place this academic year, born out of a new collaboration between local independent and state schools which wholeheartedly encapsulates our five values:

Ambition for all, Better together, Learning that inspires, Brave Innovators and Guided by Integrity

The West Surrey Partnership, of which Jack Mayhew is chair, is made up of representatives from schools within West Surrey who are working together to offer enriching, memorable and motivational experiences for not only our young people but also our staff. The partnership embodies equality, diversity and inclusion, concentrating on building the confidence and capturing the imagination of our young people, regardless of school, situation or background.

As Guildford Book Festival is coming to a close, West Surrey Partnership's inaugural event took place at G Live on Tuesday 11 October and it dynamically celebrated literature and writing. Over 1500 local school children participated; pupils from years 5 and 6 during the morning and students from years 7 and 8 filled up the whole auditorium in the afternoon. It was a truly delightful sight and the atmsophere was electric.

Many of our pupils from across the trust were treated to an opportunity to hear from and work with renowned spoken word artist, poet and rapper, Christian Foley. He kept his audience enthralled, brought English alive and kicked imaginations into a creative overdrive.

Two futher events will be held later on this year around the important themes of wellbeing and sustainability, please keep an eye out for further information.

Bringing the young people and staff of our trust together to embrace innovative and inspirational learning at such a groundbreaking event is a proud moment for us and we hope there will be plenty more opportunities like this to allow the children in our care to thrive.

This week commenced with World Mental Health day; there are countless benefits to reading, it is a number one tool for looking after yourself and your wellbeing. Let's continue to celebrate literature in all its forms and keep reading!
