Stand tall in the storm, you are not alone

24th February 2022

Welcome back after half term, and I hope we have all managed to find some rest and relaxation. The final weekend of half term saw windy extremes with Storm Dudley, Eunice and Franklin battering fences, garden furniture and everything else. I hope we all managed to survive unscathed – at least we did not have to consider closing some schools as our colleagues with different half terms.

Testing conditions do remind us of the need to secure foundations and reliable constants. At our headteachers’ meeting before half term, we focused on the learning principles that are fundamental in every learning situation. Discussing our view of the foundations for learning that support education in every context. As the winds, meteorological or educational seem to blow – it is more important than ever to hold onto the direction these principles provide; our true north, if you like. At Learning Partners, we have shared and built our ‘true north’ around our values. The values of; learning that inspires, ambition for all, brave innovators, better together and guided by integrity. These shared and defined values, completed as part of our focus group work last academic year, provide a direction for all of us.

It is in this light that we build our Learning Partners identity. Before, during and after half term we are witnessing our re-branding. Signs up around our schools, websites, press releases, email addresses and social media profiles are all well underway to communicate what we stand for, and that we stand together, as a local cross-phase academy trust with the children’s needs at our heart. Appropriately our strapline, ‘leading schools where children thrive’ encapsulates the role of the trust in guiding and supporting schools, but also our ambition to provide the best schools for our communities and support our children, all children thrive and reach their potential. This truly is what unites us and brings us together. We have never been, or will be, a trust with an identikit model of schooling which has to be applied religiously in all settings. We believe in the power of collaboration, but also support the uniqueness of our schools and the rich diversity of our learners who benefit from consistency and collaboration, but also adjustment and nuance to allow all to thrive.

When the winds blow, we know we have each other’s back. We stand together and united, but we are also strong enough to encourage individuality, growth and endeavour. This is what we seek to foster in our classrooms, staffrooms, playing fields and communities. Stand tall in the storm, you are not alone.
