Welcome Back

15th September 2023

Welcome back to the new academic year. I hope the excitement from your new stationery order hasn’t waned, your ‘work time’ sleep patterns have adjusted successfully, and you have all had a smooth start to the academic year. I would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to new colleagues joining the trust from Burpham, Tillingbourne, Glebelands and Moss Lane. These new schools are welcome members to the Learning Partners family. We all look forward to collaborating further with these local schools and helping to work together to provide the best for the children we serve. Continually striving to be leading schools where children thrive.

Thriving we are. I am delighted to report that summer examination outcomes have been kind to us. As a result of all your hard work we have seen indicative progress in our primary and secondary schools improve at trust level. Resulting in our children being better prepared for their next steps and benefitting from the transformative power of education. All of us recognise that academic outcomes are not the only barometer by which we judge ourselves, but we have seen solid developments across our organisation. We do not rest on our laurels as we endeavour to improve further, sure in the knowledge that we have another shiny, keen and enthusiastic set of young people to welcome to our organisations and provide for.

Our theme this year is ‘educational resilience’. We will explore this throughout the year, particularly at our trust-wide INSET day in February, however every CPD session, business manager meeting, LSA network, safeguarding briefing or governor training session is inextricably linked to being ‘better together’. Trust working is the epitome of building educational resilience. We know that challenges come at us. Now more than ever. However, rest assured together we can face these issues with greater confidence, capacity and experience. We really are stronger together, and this year, as we grow, we seek to further build our capacity to support each other, utilise our resources wisely and efficiently and meet these challenges successfully.

The first few weeks have been busy. Our central trust team have been made to feel very welcome at Kings, our home for the year as we facilitate the development of Surrey Maths School. Headteachers meetings, RAAC surveys, estates developments over the summer, welcoming new schools, colleagues and children. However many times we welcome the new academic year, it still has an energy and excitement to it. Enjoy making a difference to children’s lives.

I wish you a great year ahead, and with one rallying call. We are a collaborative trust. We strive to serve each other to benefit our children. It is your trust. If you want us to do something – ask. Be creative. Set up your own networks, social groups, document drops, shared lesson plans, sports teams, tournaments, science decathlons… let us be the change.

Have a great year.
